Egyptian Minister of Transport Kamel El Wazir and Japanese Ambassador in Cairo Oka Hiroshi conferred on Monday on means of boosting co-operation between the two sides in the various transport fields especially the implementation of the first phase of Cairo Metro Line 4.
During the meeting, the minister asserted the depth of relations binding the two countries’ leaders and peoples, praising the fruitful cooperation between Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) and Egypt in implementing a number of joint ventures in the transport sector.
Meanwhile, Director General of the Middle East and Europe Department at JICA Matsunaga Hideki asserted that coordination with officials in the Egyptian Transport Ministry is underway to launch a training program for Egyptian engineers for operating the urban transport projects especially in the New Administrative Capital.
The first phase of the Greater Cairo Metro Line 4 connects old Cairo to 6th of October City, extends from El Malek El-Saleh Area to Al-Ashgar District with a total length of 19 KM of total 17 stations. The joint venture of all Egyptian national firms Concord for Engineering & Contracting, Arab Contractors, Hassan Allam Construction, and Petrojet is responsible for 12 metro stations using 4 mega excavation Machines with a diameter of 6.75m.
