Germany provides more humanitarian supplies to civilians in Gaza

Another plane arrived from Germany to Egypt carrying humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza. The 20-ton humanitarian shipment includes 120 large tents to help people in Gaza who are currently homeless.

The German Special Envoy for Humanitarian Aid in the Near and Middle East, Daiki Potzel, and the German Ambassador in Cairo, Frank Hartmann, arrived in North Sinai to coordinate the arrival and unloading of the German aid plane at Al-Arish Airport, where relief supplies were delivered to the United Nations International Organization for Migration, which is organizing the transportation. To the Gaza Strip, where relief supplies will be managed by staff of the relief organization Norwegian Refugee Council.

The German envoy said: “We are strongly committed to alleviating the enormous suffering of civilians in Gaza, so Germany stands with the wounded, people suffering from the consequences of trauma and those who have no shelter, and that is why we have more than doubled our life-critical humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories in recent weeks.” To reach 202.5 million euros.

She continued: “On December 15, Germany became the largest donor country of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories in 2023.”

A special German Air Force plane loaded with medical supplies, including high-quality medical equipment to treat patients from Gaza in Egypt, already arrived in Cairo last Saturday.

The envoy said that more flights will follow, as Germany will make a significant contribution to the aid flights planned by the European Union over the coming days, which will provide materials such as camp beds, blankets and water filters.

During their trip to North Sinai, the German Special Envoy for Humanitarian Aid in the Middle and Near East, Daiki Butzel, and the German Ambassador in Cairo, Frank Hartmann, exchanged views with the Governor of North Sinai, Major General Mohamed Shousha, about the ongoing relief efforts in the current crisis.

In addition, Special Envoy Bötzel and Ambassador Hartmann visited the Rafah border crossing to get a personal impression of humanitarian aid shipments to Gaza and also visited hospitals in North Sinai where people from Gaza are being treated.
