On Tuesday, December 26, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry meets with his Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi in the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters.
According to the Presidency of the Egyptian Council of Ministers, Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Shoukry affirmed Egypt’s constant desire to strengthen consultation and coordination with Jordan, whether at the meeting or at the ministerial level, in order to address common challenges and work to find solutions to the region’s political and security crises. He emphasized the need of continuing bilateral efforts to strengthen and extend economic and commercial collaboration between the two allies countries, as well as to remove any barriers to such cooperation.
Abu Zeid also mentioned discussions on the Gaza situation, focusing on both ceasefire efforts and the implementation of UN resolution 2720 concerning humanitarian aid access. The meeting acknowledged both the Israeli obstacles and the need for a UN monitoring mechanism.
The official confirmed that security of Red Sea navigation was discussed. The ministers emphasized the importance of trilateral collaboration for mutual benefit in both commerce and national security, causing them to reaffirm the relevance of trilateral cooperation between Egypt, Jordan, and Iraq.
