Egypt and US Collaborate on Tourism and Antiquities: Minister Meets New Ambassador

According to The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the minister met with United States Ambassador in Cairo, Ambassador Hero Mustafa Garg, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral collaboration in the tourist and antiquities industries.

The meeting focused on training for ministry staff as well as investment potential in Egypt’s tourist sector, specifically in the hotel industry.

The two sides also discussed their continuous collaboration with the United States.

US Agency for International Development (USAID) on tourism development initiatives, antiquities and heritage protection, and improving the efficiency of tourist and archeological sites. The meeting also emphasized the Supreme Council of Antiquities’ efforts toward financial sustainability and increased spending and revenue.

The Council has reduced its dependency on the state budget by raising ticket costs for museums and archeological sites, resulting in a five-fold increase in revenue. The ministry is collaborating with the commercial sector to provide services at these monuments and institutions.

The meeting intends to strengthen collaboration and knowledge in the tourist and antiquities sectors with other nations, as well as to stimulate investment in Egypt.
