The Pakistani government announced the cancellation of New Year’s celebrations, in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza, calling on citizens to adhere to “simple” appearances, according to a televised message by Pakistani Prime Minister Anwar Haq Kakar to his people.

Anwar al-Haq said that the government “completely banned all types of events related to New Year’s celebrations due to the situation in the Gaza Strip.”

He added that the entire Pakistani nation and the Islamic nation are deeply saddened by the genocide of the oppressed Palestinians, especially the massacre of innocent children in Gaza.

He continued: “I appeal to all Pakistanis to show solidarity with the Palestinians and maintain simplicity at the beginning of the new year.”

The Pakistani Prime Minister also stressed that his country constantly speaks in various international forums regarding Gaza, and condemns the acts of genocide committed by Israel, which led to the loss of thousands of lives.
