Christian Berger, the European Union ambassador in Egypt, said that he believes that the rules governing the EU’s dealing with countries in the Middle East and North Africa since the 1970s are based on fundamental principles of peace, prosperity, and human exchanges. He pointed out that this is still ongoing.
He added: “We are working to strengthen these relations, and we have seen important elements emerge from these relations through the Mediterranean Partnership, the most important of which is trade. The European Union is Egypt’s largest trading partner with more than 25% of Egypt’s foreign trade, amounting to 35 billion euros annually, whether exports or imports.”
The EU ambassador in Egypt continued that the European Union is the largest investor in foreign direct investment in Egypt and a large percentage of it comes from Egypt at 38%. There are also long standing relations in the fields of trade and investment.
This came during an interview with Dalia Abou Amra the presenter of this evening program on “Cairo News” channel.
