Frenkie de Jong, a midfielder for Barcelona first team, has stated his intention to stay with the Catalan giant after the current season ends.
De Jong’s contract with Barcelona expires after two and a half seasons, specifically on June 30, 2026, but several reports suggest that he could leave once the season finishes. Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool are among the clubs interested in signing with the Dutch international player.
De Jong spoke about his future in an interview with the Dutch network NOS, saying: “I’m at the club I’ve always dreamed of joining.” He added: “I am very satisfied at Barcelona. It’s always difficult to say. For now, I feel good here.”
He continued: “I still haven’t won the awards I want to win and I’m still not the player I want to be.
There is still room for improvement and I still have time, but I would prefer to be there as soon as possible.” On the competition for the La Liga title: “We’re not doing well in LaLiga, that’s the reality but we still have half the season left. You never know. We finished top of our group in the Champions League. There’s still a lot to play for.”
And about the injuries: “We miss some players who are injured, such as Gavi and Pedri. All the clubs are having a lot of injuries and I hope that this year we can play all the available players and that everyone stays fit.” Regarding Manchester United’s interest: “There may be interest already, but I am satisfied with being at Barcelona.”
