Today, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said at a daily press conference that the expansion of the BRICS group showed its bright prospects.
Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE, Iran and Ethiopia joined BRICS on January 1, doubling the group’s membership from 5 to 10.
Wang pointed out that China is fully confident in the future of BRICS, and the BRICS cooperation mechanism has increased cohesion and influence and become a positive and stable force for achieving benefits in international affairs.
He said that at the request of the countries concerned, the BRICS decided to expand its membership, which serves the common ambition of emerging markets and developing countries, and follows the global trend towards multipolarity.
“We will work with the BRICS partners to seek to achieve new results in greater cooperation among the BRICS countries,” the spokesman said.
