During its visit to Egypt, the US Congress delegation stressed the strategic importance of the relationship between the two countries

A bipartisan delegation from the United States Senate and House of Representatives (Congress), led by US Senator Joni Ernst, visited Egypt today, to discuss continued cooperation between the two countries.

According to a statement issued by the United States Embassy in Cairo, the visiting American delegation stressed the strategic importance of the relationship between the United States and Egypt, common goals in confronting regional challenges, and continued economic cooperation.

During the visit, the group met with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, as well as with American and Egyptian companies invited by the American Chamber of Commerce.

Today, Wednesday, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a delegation from the Democratic and Republican parties from various committees in the US Congress, headed by Senator Joni Ernst, in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry.

The official spokesman for the Presidency of the Republic, Counselor Ahmed Fahmy, stated that the meeting witnessed confirmation of the importance and centrality of the strategic partnership and close relations between Egypt and the United States, as the American delegation affirmed the keenness of the United States, and Congress in particular, to develop areas of joint cooperation between the two countries, in recognition of Egypt’s regional status and role. And its tireless efforts to enhance security, stability and development in the region.

The official spokesman added that the meeting witnessed an open dialogue between the President and the American delegation regarding developments in the regional scene, especially in the Gaza Strip, where the President reviewed the general context of the current situation, stressing the need to work seriously on a just and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue, through the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He stressed that the current priority is to reach a ceasefire, protect civilians, and deliver relief aid in sufficient quantities to confront the humanitarian tragedy faced by the people of the Gaza Strip, in line with and implementation of the relevant UN resolutions.
