Until January 11, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken will make visits to Egypt, Turkey, Greece, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Israel, and the West Bank, according to the US State Department.
According to the State Department, Blinken will underscore the need of the Israeli government carrying out more to calm tensions in the West Bank. He will also emphasize focusing on preventing the dispute from spreading throughout the region, including concrete actions that the parties can take. Blinken will also emphasize the importance of taking action to prevent Houthi attacks on Red Sea ships.
Blinken’s visit is considered as an opportunity to address these issues while also promoting peace and stability in the Middle East.
The visit of Blinken coincides with escalating tensions in the Middle East. The Israeli-Palestinian issue has not been settled yet, there have also been recent outbreaks of violence in the West Bank. Also Houthis have recently increased their attacks on Red Sea shipping, threatening international commercial channels.
