Speaker of the Arab Parliament: Choosing Morocco to chair the Human Rights Council is an achievement that reflects its position regionally and internationally

Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, Speaker of the Arab Parliament, congratulated the Kingdom of Morocco, the king, government, parliament and people, on the occasion of its election to chair the United Nations Human Rights Council for the year 2024, for the first time in its history, following a vote that took place today, Wednesday, in Geneva.

Al-Assoumi stressed that this victory is an international achievement that reflects the weight enjoyed by the Kingdom of Morocco and its leading position regionally and internationally, and comes as a culmination of the wise policies pursued by the Kingdom under the leadership of King Mohammed VI – may God support him – in consolidating rights and freedoms, and also confirms its awareness of the importance of human rights.

In achieving sustainable development, and reflects its tireless efforts at the regional and international levels, and its consistent approach in cooperation with the United Nations and its various agencies in order to confront all the challenges facing the international community and achieve a more prosperous future for all countries and peoples of the world, expressing his confidence that Morocco will be a strong voice.

Defending human rights issues in Arab countries at the United Nations, and because this victory represents a qualitative addition to Arab diplomacy at the international level, and carrying out its role in promoting and protecting human rights, through its presence as president of the Council, to enhance cooperation and constructive dialogue efforts, and to strengthen partnerships between countries.

The President of the Arab Parliament praised the tireless efforts made by the Kingdom of Morocco in the field of human rights and its distinguished legislative and legal system, which is the subject of international interest and appreciation in promoting and protecting human rights, stressing that it provides a solid experience in improving the human rights system at all levels, deriving its leadership from cultural heritage. The Kingdom of Morocco and its constitution, which guarantees freedoms for all, and its legislative system, which promotes the principles of justice, equality, tolerance, and respect for rights for all.
