Sweden’s ambassador to Cairo, Håkan Emsgård, explained that Egypt is playing a major and unique role in establishing a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and putting an end to the current crisis, noting that Egypt has the ability to communicate with all parties to the conflict.
The Swedish ambassador added that Egypt plays a pivotal role in enhancing security and stability in the Middle East region, describing its role in dealing with the ongoing crisis in the Gaza Strip as “extremely important,” as the situation in the Strip is “extremely difficult.”
The ambassador pointed out his appreciation for Egypt’s role in facilitating the evacuation of foreign citizens and dual nationals, including Swedish nationals, from Gaza, as well as in facilitating the arrival of humanitarian aid and basic necessities to the Strip.
The Swedish ambassador confirmed that his country provided humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip amounting to about 253 million Swedish krona during the past year 2023.
The ambassador praised the depth of relations between Egypt and Sweden in various political, economic, commercial and cultural fields, in addition to the close coordination between the two countries regarding regional and international issues and files of common interest.
The Swedish ambassador described the cooperation between his country and Egypt as “close,” referring to the mutual visits between officials of the two countries.
The ambassador stressed the importance of fruitful economic cooperation between his country and Egypt, which is witnessing remarkable growth, which is reflected in the volume of investments and the number of Swedish companies in Egypt that produce and export.
