France’s new Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal, is the first openly gay person and the youngest to hold this office

Gabriel Attal now holds the role of Prime Minister of France. At 34 years old, he is the youngest individual to have held this office throughout the Fifth Republic. He is openly gay and has a relationship with Stephane Sejourne, a former adviser to President Emmanuel Macron. He is Jewish and has Tunisian roots.

Attal’s political career began in 2017 when he was elected as a parliament member for La République En Marche in the Hauts-de-Seine department.

He rapidly promoted through the rank; From 2020 to 2022, he was Secretary of State to the Prime Minister, Spokesperson for the Government, Minister Delegate for Public Accounts in 2022, and Minister of National Education and Youth in 2023.
