The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Russia in Cairo commented on the renewed attacks launched by the United States of America and Britain on sites in Yemen, allegedly to deter Houthi attacks on commercial ships in the Red Sea.
The embassy said, in a statement: “Instead of stopping the war in the Gaza Strip, the United States is expanding the focus of fighting and conflict throughout the region by continuing to strike Yemen.”
The Embassy of the Russian Federation added: “This only leads to an increase in the number of Arab victims.”
Russia condemned the air strikes launched by the United States and Britain on Houthi targets in Yemen, saying that they lead to escalation of tensions in the Middle East and show a complete disregard for international law.
Moscow called for an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council to discuss the issue and developments in the Middle East.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “The American air strikes on Yemen are another example of the Anglo-Saxons’ deviation from UN Security Council resolutions.”
She added that the strikes show “a complete disregard for international law and lead to an escalation of the situation in the region.”
Egypt expressed its concern about the air strikes on sites in Yemen, and renewed its warning of the dangers of expanding the conflict as a result of the continuing war in Gaza.
Egypt issued a statement calling for “the necessity of uniting international and regional efforts to reduce tension and instability in the region, including the security of navigation in the Red Sea.”
The statement stressed “the inevitability of a comprehensive ceasefire and an end to the ongoing war against Palestinian civilians, to spare the region from further factors of instability, conflicts and threats to international peace and security.”
