The Houthis, vowed to retaliate against US and UK airstrikes on regions under their control. This comes after hundreds of Houthi supporters protested the attacks and expressed solidarity with Palestinians.
The US and UK airstrikes hit around 60 Houthi-controlled areas, including military and industrial facilities.
They were in response to Houthi missile and drone attacks on commercial and navy ships in the Red Sea.
The Houthis claim they only targeted Israeli-linked vessels in order to force Israel to end its attack on Gaza.
They condemned the airstrikes as “barbaric” and promised to continue blocking the Red Sea for Israeli ships.
Al-Houthi stated in a tweet on X, “The American-British attacks are barbaric, terrorist, and unjustifiable action that reveals a cruel psyche,”
The airstrikes provoked intense debate in Yemen, with some applauding them and others criticizing them as an act of aggression.
Yemeni political experts believe those attacks were intended to send a deterrent message but won’t eliminate the Houthis, and that the Houthi revenge is “imminent.”
