Today, Sunday, the 14th of this month, at the headquarters of the League’s General Secretariat, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Mr. Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is accompanied by a high-level delegation, as part of a tour in Africa that includes: From Egypt, Tunisia, Togo, and Ivory Coast.
Gamal Rushdi, the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, said that Aboul Gheit welcomed the Chinese minister, stressing the depth of the historical relations between the Arab countries and China and the development of the friendly and cooperative relations that have existed between them since the establishment of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum in 2004, which culminated in the holding of the first Arab-Chinese summit in 2022. .
In the same context, the spokesman indicated that the Chinese minister expressed his aspiration to hold the tenth session of the ministerial meeting of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum during the current year in China, especially since it coincides with the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of the Arab-Chinese Cooperation Forum.
The spokesman stated that the discussions between the two sides dealt with various Arab and international issues of common interest, especially the Palestinian issue and what the Gaza Strip is going through in light of the brutal war waged by the Israeli occupation against Palestinian civilians, which led to a horrific humanitarian catastrophe.
The spokesman said that Aboul Gheit was keen to warn of the enormous risks involved in the scenario of forced population displacement from the Gaza Strip, as Israel desires, stressing the complete Arab rejection of such ideas and practices as they represent a flagrant violation of international law, including the population displacement carried out by Israel. Within the sector.
The Chinese Minister, for his part, expressed agreement with this position, while Aboul Gheit highly appreciated the continued support provided by the Chinese side – at the political and humanitarian levels – for the Palestinian cause in various international forums, especially in the United Nations.
The spokesman indicated that Aboul Gheit heard a comprehensive explanation from the Chinese minister regarding the Taiwan issue, especially in light of the presidential elections that were held yesterday, Saturday, January 13. Here, Aboul Gheit affirmed the firm Arab position on supporting China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and firm commitment to the China principle. One.
Rushdi explained that, at the conclusion of the meeting, both Aboul Gheit and Wang Yi signed a memorandum of understanding between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding the establishment of the Arab-Chinese Association of Intellectual Institutions, within the framework of continuing to strengthen friendship and deepening the strategic partnership between China, the Arab League and its member states.
