Switzerland announced that it has allocated an additional amount of 90 million Swiss francs, or approximately 102 million US dollars, in humanitarian aid, in response to the tragic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.
According to a statement issued by the Swiss Embassy in Cairo, 81 million Swiss francs were allocated to the occupied Palestinian territories and 9 million Swiss francs to the region, including Egypt.
The funds will be disbursed based on the needs of the following organizations: the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the National Societies of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), and the Food Programme. World Health Organization (WFP), World Health Organization (WHO), Terre des Hommes Switzerland, and Médicins du Monde Switzerland.
In Egypt, Switzerland is supporting the Egyptian Red Crescent through a contribution of 4 million Swiss francs to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Regional Appeal, which aims to address the regional consequences of the war in Gaza in neighboring countries.
According to the statement, Switzerland’s commitments will address meeting basic humanitarian needs such as water, food, and medical care for the citizens of Gaza.
Switzerland also reallocated contributions to Egypt to support relief efforts carried out by the Egyptian Red Crescent and the United Nations Population Fund.
In addition, Switzerland supported the resolution adopted by the UN Security Council on December 22, 2023 aimed at increasing humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
