Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met today with Ugandan Foreign Minister Gigi Odongo on the sidelines of the Non-Aligned Countries Summit currently being held in the Ugandan capital, Kampala.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Mr. Sameh Shoukry indicated Egypt’s support for Uganda’s presidency of the Non-Aligned Countries Summit, expressing his confidence in the wisdom and ability of the Ugandan side to assume that responsibility, which was appreciated by his Ugandan counterpart. He stressed his aspiration for Egypt’s support for Uganda’s efforts to activate this important forum at this time that is witnessing increasing regional and international challenges, most notably the war in the Gaza Strip.
The official spokesman explained that the meeting witnessed the Ugandan Foreign Minister expressing his thanks for the Egyptian efforts related to cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, energy, and building Ugandan cadres. Minister Shukri expressed Egypt’s keenness to continue playing this role in light of the historical relations between the two countries, and the desire to support the people. Brother Ugandan.
The official spokesman added that the meeting between the two sides touched on the most prominent regional issues, most notably the situation in Sudan, where the two sides exchanged visions regarding ways to resolve the crisis and their efforts in this regard. The meeting also discussed recent developments related to the situation in Somalia, which witnessed a consensus between the two sides in their visions.
