The Russian Foreign Minister condemns the attacks of America and Britain on Yemen

By Manal Abdel Fattah

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Thursday that America and Britain are trampling international law by striking Yemen.

Lavrov explained, in his statements, that “the United Nations did not grant the United States the right to strike Yemen as happened in Libya, and this is a violation of the law.”

Earlier today, the US Central Command issued an urgent statement revealing details of the recent air strikes that targeted Houthi group sites in several Yemeni governorates.

The Central Command said in its statement: “US Central Command forces carried out strikes on 14 missiles of the Iranian-backed Houthi group that were loaded for launch in Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen.”

The statement added that these missiles “represented an imminent threat to commercial ships and US Navy ships in the region, and could have been launched at any time.”

The statement continued: “These strikes, along with other measures we have taken, will weaken the Houthis’ capabilities to continue their reckless attacks on international and commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Gulf of Aden.”

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov confirmed that the United States and Britain violated the norms of international law by launching their strikes on Yemeni territory, indicating that this represents a violation of the law and outside the framework of the United Nations resolution.

Lavrov said at a press conference on the results of Russian diplomatic activities in 2023 today, Thursday: “The United States, together with the British, violated all standards of international law that can be simply imagined and studied, including the UN Security Council resolution, which only called for the protection of shipping.” He did not authorize the bombing of Yemen.”
