In a statement today, the Somali ambassador to Cairo stressed the importance of the visit, which comes at a very sensitive time in view of what Somalia is facing from the Ethiopian violation of its sovereignty over its lands, following the conclusion of the illegal memorandum of understanding between Ethiopia and the Somaliland region located northwest of Somalia, stressing that it is an integral part of Part of Somali territory.
The Somali ambassador stressed his country’s keenness to coordinate positions with Egypt, given the pivotal role that Egypt plays in the region, appreciating at the same time the great Egyptian support for Somalia in its current crisis, which is not surprising for Egypt, which has always been the first to take positions that support its brothers, explaining in At the same time, Egypt was one of the first countries to explicitly announce its position immediately after the outbreak of the crisis, emphasizing the necessity of full respect for the unity and sovereignty of the Federal Republic of Somalia over its entire territory, and its opposition to any measures that would undermine Somali sovereignty, as well as the exclusive right of Somalia and its people to benefit from its resources.
The Somali Ambassador to Cairo indicated that the Somali President’s visit to Egypt includes a meeting with His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, as well as the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and His Eminence the Grand Imam, Sheikh of Al-Azhar, to discuss the latest developments in the situation in the region.
