The Sultanate of Oman participated today in the emergency session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level, which was held via video conference, to support the Federal Republic of Somalia in confronting the attack on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
In a speech delivered by Ambassador Sheikh Faisal bin Omar Al Marhoon, Head of the Arab Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Sultanate of Oman affirmed its support for the sovereignty and stability of the Federal Republic of Somalia and the integrity and territorial integrity of its territories, stressing that any threat to the territorial integrity and unity of any of the Arab countries is a serious threat to Arab national security.
The emergency session of the Council of the League of Arab States at the ministerial level issued a resolution affirming support for the security, stability, unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, solidarity and full support, and considering the “Memorandum of Understanding” between the Republic of Ethiopia and the territory of Somaliland as null, void, unacceptable and a blatant violation of the principles of international law, and emphasizing that Somaliland is an integral part of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
The resolution also affirmed support for Somalia’s efforts to resort to the International Court of Justice, to condemn this measure as a blatant aggression against Somali sovereignty and unity.
