Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, received, at his residence in Cairo, Adel bin Abdul Rahman Al-Asoumi, President of the Arab Parliament, during his official visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
The meeting included the latest developments on the Somali scene within the framework of the illegal memorandum of understanding that was signed between the Federal Republic of Ethiopia and the so-called “Somaliland region”, and the steps taken by the Republic of Somalia to confront the blatant Ethiopian infringements on the security and stability of the state, which is an integral part of security. During the meeting, Al-Asomi stressed that the Arab Parliament will always stand alongside the voice of truth against falsehood, indicating that what Ethiopia has done is unacceptable and condemnable and represents a blatant violation of all international norms and laws, calling on the international community to intervene and stop this aggression against the sovereignty and security of the Somali state. And its stability, and obliging Ethiopia to respect the rules of good neighborliness and not to infringe on these countries by interfering in their internal affairs.
Al-Asoumi stressed the Arab Parliament’s full solidarity with the Somali state and its institutions, and its support for the decision of the Arab League Council at the level of foreign ministers, regarding this memorandum as null and void and of no effect.
The President of the Arab Parliament also appreciated the great achievements and major development leap achieved by the Republic of Somalia under his presidency, noting that Somalia has achieved great progress in the scale of achievement at all levels, which confirms the wise policy it follows.
In turn, the Somali President expressed his country and people’s appreciation for the Arab Parliament’s position in support of his country and the aspirations of the Somali people to preserve their sovereignty and state and live a decent life.
The President appreciated the decision that emerged from the Arab Parliament session held yesterday to support Somalia, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and that the Somali region is an inseparable part of Somalia in accordance with international conventions, as well as full support for Somali legitimacy and for all efforts aimed at strengthening security and peace in this region, which represents a basic pillar. For regional and continental security.
