Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Sameh Shoukry, received at his residence upon his arrival in the Belgian capital, Brussels, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, “José Manuel Albarez,” as part of his visit. The official spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry explained that the two ministers discussed in detail the deteriorating humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip, the importance of an immediate ceasefire, and the moves aimed at fully implementing Security Council Resolution 2720 regarding facilitating, coordinating and monitoring the process of bringing humanitarian aid into the Strip, to ensure its full and sustainable implementation.
Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry was keen to praise Spain’s role in supporting the Palestinian cause historically within the corridors of the European Union, noting the responsibility of the European Union and internationally active countries to intervene to put an end to Israeli violations against Palestinian civilians in Gaza and the West Bank, and stressing that an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip It will only be achieved through international pressure on Israel.
For his part, the Spanish Foreign Minister praised the tireless Egyptian efforts to find a solution to the crisis in Gaza, introduce humanitarian aid, and work to prevent the expansion of the conflict, stressing Egypt’s regional role as an essential partner for peace and stability in the Middle East.
Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid added that the meeting also discussed ways to enhance cooperation between Egypt and Spain at the bilateral level and within the framework of the partnership between Egypt and the European Union, as the two ministers were keen to confirm the common desire to advance various paths of cooperation and build on the friendly relations that unite the two countries, including: This is a consensus of positions regarding ways to confront the existing regional and international challenges.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period to coordinate moves to stop the war on the Gaza Strip, limit its humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian people, and revive the peace process on serious foundations that guarantee the establishment of an independent Palestinian state.
