Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry met on the sidelines of his participation in the meetings of the European Union Foreign Affairs Council and Paolo Gentiloni, the European Commissioner for Economic Affairs.
During the meeting, Minister Shoukry touched on ways to strengthen economic relations between Egypt and the European Union and increase direct European investments in a number of important sectors that represent a priority for both sides, especially renewable and clean energy, as well as preparations for holding the National Investment Conference during the current year, which will be allocated A special day for European companies. They also discussed ways to enhance the access of Egyptian products to European markets to achieve balance in the trade balance between the two sides.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed, according to the official spokesman’s statements, the importance of the effective contribution of industrialized countries, especially the European Union countries, in bearing the economic burden of the repercussions of climate change and supporting Egypt and developing countries in implementing their national strategies to deal with this phenomenon, in a way that does not represent a burden on the process of Development.
For his part, the European Commissioner stressed that the European Union, with all its institutions and leadership, is aware of the magnitude of the geopolitical challenges that Egypt faces as a result of the political turmoil in its regional surroundings and the associated economic challenges. He expressed the European Union’s commitment to contribute to supporting the economic stability of Egypt as it is an integral part of Security and stability of European Union countries.
