The Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo organizes a symposium on “Literary Translation Movement to and from Arabic”

The Embassy of Ukraine in Cairo is organizing a symposium entitled: “The Literary Translation Movement in Ukraine to and from Arabic” on the evening of Monday, February 5, at the Egypt International Convention and Exhibition Center in Cairo.

The symposium will be held within the framework of the 55th session of the Cairo International Book Fair (Programme: Cultural Experiences).

Lectures at the symposium will be: Ukrainian Ambassador to Egypt Mykola Nahorny, Volodymyr Martynyuk, Counselor at the Ukrainian Embassy in Cairo, Egyptian writer and literary critic Dr. Samir Mendy, and Dr. Mahmoud Al-Qai’i.

Former teacher of Arabic literature at Taras Shevchenko National University in the city of Kiev, and with the virtual participation of the Ukrainian translator, professor of Arabic language, and director of the Egyptian Center for Arabic Language and Culture at Taras Shevchenko National University in the city of Kiev, Olena Khomitska; The Lebanese writer and translator, winner of the Ukrainian “Drahoman” Prize for Literary Translation, Imad al-Din Raif; And the Ukrainian translator and doctoral student at the American University of Beirut, Oksana Prokhorovich.

During this event, a group of literary publications translated into Arabic and Ukrainian will be displayed.

The symposium topics will address: the outlook on Ukrainian-Egyptian relations; Ukrainian cultural diplomacy in Arab countries through the prism of literary projects; The distinctive features of the literary translation movement in Ukraine; Opening horizons for cooperation in the field of publishing and distribution between Ukrainian and Egyptian publishing houses. The importance of developing the infrastructure to achieve joint projects in the field of literary translation; Personal experience and expertise in the field of literary translation.
