China’s representative to the United Nations: An immediate and rapid ceasefire must be reached in Gaza

Ambassador Zhang Jun, China’s representative to the United Nations, said that more than three months have passed since the outbreak of the last Israeli-Palestinian conflict, as the flames of war are still raging, and the humanitarian catastrophe is still getting more severe, so that we are facing repeated violations of international law and international humanitarian law, and in Confronting repeated violations of human dignity, morality and conscience, and in the face of massive threats to regional peace and security.

The ambassador added in a briefing to the United Nations Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the issue of Palestine, that the international community made an increasingly strong appeal and the International Court of Justice also took strong measures, continuing: The Security Council has no alternative but to take further measures. Immediately, with the greatest sense of responsibility and the strongest determination to protect justice, save lives and achieve peace.

He added: We must push for an immediate ceasefire with the utmost urgency.

There has always been a consensus in the international community on an immediate ceasefire, and it is unfortunate that a certain country has continued to obstruct the resolution. He continued: The Security Council should take strong measures to direct all diplomatic efforts towards an immediate ceasefire, as Israel must immediately stop its indiscriminate military attacks and destruction in Gaza, and at the same time, every effort should be made to prevent the indirect effects of the conflict in Gaza on the region. He added: We support the Council taking further measures to remove obstacles to humanitarian relief. The temporary measures ordered by the International Court of Justice last week are a strong response to the international community’s concern about protecting civilians, alleviating the regional situation, and alleviating the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, so these must be implemented. Interim measures quickly and effectively.

The ambassador added: We must firmly promote the implementation of the two-state solution, which is the only viable path to achieving peace between Palestine and Israel, so Israel must immediately stop eroding the foundation of the two-state solution, stop the forced displacement of Gaza residents and the expansion of settlements in the West Bank, as well as operations Searches, arrests and attacks against Palestinians.
He continued: China calls for greater international and regional diplomatic efforts to reshape a credible multilateral process, continuing: We call for holding a more broad and effective international peace conference, in order to accelerate the setting of a timetable and road map for implementing the two-state solution, and we support full membership of Palestine in the United Nations. .
