Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry receives a call from the Norwegian Foreign Minister

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Sameh Shukri, Minister of Foreign Affairs, received a phone call from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway, Espen Barth Ede.

The official spokesman explained that the two ministers discussed various aspects of the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and the efforts required to ensure the full implementation of the provisions of Security Council Resolution 2720, and the urgent activation of the international mechanism to facilitate, coordinate and monitor the process of bringing aid into Gaza.

The two ministers also stressed the importance of mobilizing resources and international support to intensify the entry of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip as soon as possible, and remove obstacles preventing its flow into the Strip. The two ministers also addressed the challenges facing the activity and capabilities of UNRWA to carry out its work following the decision of some countries to suspend their funding to the agency, which would further deteriorate the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, given that UNRWA plays the primary role in the process of distributing aid and dealing with various aspects of the situation. Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid added that the Norwegian Foreign Minister appreciated the important role played by Egypt in providing and delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip, as well as with regard to supporting the achievement of a ceasefire and enforcing the truce in Gaza.

At the end of the call, the two ministers agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period to support efforts to contain the crisis and limit its humanitarian repercussions on the Palestinian people.
