Egypt participates in the meetings of the five-member committee for Lebanon

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that within the framework of the diplomatic efforts exerted by Egypt to support Lebanon, enhance its stability, and help its brotherly people to end the current state of presidential vacancy, Egypt recently participated in the meeting of the five-member special committee for Lebanon, which includes: Its membership includes Egypt, France, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United States of America, and Qatar, with the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, Nabih Berri.

The official spokesman for the Egyptian Foreign Ministry revealed that the Egyptian delegation participating in the meeting, which was headed by Ambassador Alaa Moussa, Egypt’s ambassador to Lebanon, stressed the keenness of the committee members to provide all possible assistance to bring the positions of the Lebanese political parties closer together, without interference or disputes over the right and responsibility of the Lebanese Parliament. Exclusivity in presenting the names nominated for the position, pointing to Egypt’s firm position in support of Lebanon and its keenness to complete the presidential election as soon as possible, in preparation for completing the Lebanese state institutions and implementing the required reforms.

For his part, Mr. Nabih Berri expressed his welcome to the unified position of the five countries towards supporting Lebanon, reiterating his commitment to working with the various Lebanese political forces and the international community to quickly complete the presidential election.

It should be noted that the Five-Year Committee represents a coordination framework that was launched last year as an embodiment of the international community’s support for Lebanon. The Committee had previously held coordination meetings at the level of senior officials of the Foreign Ministries and at the level of the ambassadors of the five countries in Beirut.
