By Manal Abdel Fattah

“Russia Today” channel intends to show a documentary film produced by it to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Egypt, during a ceremony that will be shown at the Egyptian Opera House.

The film scheduled to be shown today is sponsored and produced by the “Russia Today” channel, conceived and prepared by Anisa Murad, directed by Karim Naguib, and with a soundtrack by Egyptian artists Ahmed and Mohamed Saleh.

A large number of currently prominent Egyptian and Russian political figures are scheduled to attend the film, which will be shown later today, in addition to diplomats who witnessed the development of relations between Moscow and Cairo.

According to the Russia Today network, the producer and official sponsor of the film, the film tells the story of a Soviet military translator sent on a mission to Egypt in the period from 1971-1973, and his return after several decades as a tourist to this country that he loved and to which he devoted a large part of his life to learning its culture and dialect.

Through the film, the hero recalls his memories and the most important milestones that supported the foundations of friendship between Egypt and Russia. The film can also transport us to the memories of the film’s hero to the beautiful past, where he remembers how the Soviet students and Orientalists were fond of Egyptian cinema, and how he lived in the officers’ housing, where he met one of Egyptian veterans and talked with him about the past when the Soviets were standing with the Egyptian army in one trench.

The film also tours through the eyes of its hero through the authentic neighborhoods of Cairo, starting from Khan Al-Khalili and ending with the modern neighborhoods and areas that are witnessing a major urban boom.

It is worth noting that last June, the Russian Embassy in Egypt celebrated National Day in the presence of a large number of ambassadors and members of foreign and Arab diplomatic bodies, as well as a large number of journalists and media figures, in the presence of the Ministers of Supply and Finance and the former Governor of Qalyubia.
