United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed concern over reports that Israeli forces plan to focus the next phase on Rafah, where hundreds of thousands of Palestinians are desperately seeking safety in a closed area.
He added: “Such an action would significantly exacerbate what is already a humanitarian nightmare and have serious regional consequences.”
He stressed that any action by the Israeli army in Rafah would seriously exacerbate the humanitarian nightmare in Gaza.
He concluded his speech by saying: The situation in Gaza is a bleeding wound in our collective consciousness that threatens the entire region.
