Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesman and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Minister Sameh Shoukry, Minister of Foreign Affairs, made, today, Thursday, a bilateral visit to the Cypriot capital, Nicosia, within the framework of Egypt’s keenness to support its bilateral relationship with Cyprus and strengthen the bonds of cooperation in various fields. .
During his visit, Minister Sameh Shoukry met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, and also held bilateral discussions with Foreign Minister Konstantinos Koumpos to discuss various aspects of bilateral relations and consult on a number of regional and international files of common interest.
Ambassador Abu Zeid explained that Minister Sameh Shoukry began his visit by meeting with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, where the meeting reflected the specificity of the relations between Egypt and Cyprus, which have many political, economic and cultural aspects, and are based on extended historical ties and geographical proximity that contributed to the formulation of convergent visions and common interests between the two countries. .
Minister Shoukry was also keen to convey the greetings of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to the Cypriot President, and Egypt’s appreciation for the continuous and tangible growth witnessed in bilateral relations at various political and economic levels.
Minister Shoukry also stressed Egypt’s aspiration to explore more new areas of joint cooperation, and to work together to develop existing aspects of cooperation, making it a role model in the field of cooperative relations between friendly countries.
For his part, President Christodoulides stressed his country’s keenness to strengthen its established relations with Egypt, and to continue activating and strengthening the various cooperation frameworks that bring the two countries together.
He also stressed the importance of building on what was agreed upon during his multiple visits to Cairo over the past year, and his fruitful meetings with the President of the Republic regarding the visions to advance the distinguished relations between the two countries, and translate them into tangible cooperation that achieves the interests of the two friendly peoples.
Regarding the discussions between Minister Shoukry and Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kumpos, the Foreign Ministry spokesman explained that the discussions included holding a closed bilateral meeting between the two foreign ministers, followed by an expanded session of talks that included the Egyptian and Cypriot delegations, which dealt with the overall paths of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, including economic, commercial, investment and tourism cooperation. Minister Shoukry was keen to stress the Egyptian government’s interest in enhancing cooperation with Cyprus in various economic fields, in a manner that would rise to the level of political rapprochement between the two countries.
