US State Dep Spox: US Opposes Any Israeli Offensive in Rafah Without Civilian Protection Plan

By Mary Nady

U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said on Monday that the United States does not support a full-scale operation in Rafah and asserted that the United States remains opposed to launching an offensive without a plan to protect civilians.
“We do not support full-scale military action without such a credible and implementable plan,” Miller told reporters.

Previously, the Axios website reported that US President Joe Biden informed Netanyahu that Washington would not support Operation Rafah under the current circumstances.

The White House said Biden called for urgent and concrete measures to increase humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians.

In addition, Biden emphasized the need to use the progress made in negotiations to ensure the speedy release of all hostages.

The US president stressed that military operations in Rafah should not begin without a plan to ensure the safety of displaced people, the White House reported.

In addition, the White House noted that Biden and Netanyahu have agreed to maintain close contact.
