Today, the Embassy of the State of Kuwait in Cairo celebrated the sixty-third National Day, which marks the anniversary of the state’s independence and the date of the accession of the late Prince Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah as Emir of the State of Kuwait, which coincides with the celebration of the thirty-third anniversary of Liberation Day as well.
Ambassador Ghanem Saqr Al-Ghanem, the Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Cairo, the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Talal Al-Mutairi, and a number of Egyptian ministers, Arab and foreign ambassadors, and major artists, politicians, writers, and media figures participated in the celebration.
The Minister of Petroleum, Engineer Tariq Al-Mulla, the Minister of Culture, Nevin Al-Kilani, the Minister of Industry and Trade, Engineer Ahmed Samir, and the ambassadors of Qatar, Oman, Tunisia, Argentina, Britain, Pakistan, and other Arab and foreign ambassadors attended.
The State of Kuwait’s celebrations of its National Day and Liberation Day also began a few days ago, which included several artistic, cultural and heritage activities and performances that express the history of the State of Kuwait and the nobility of its heritage, in cooperation between various ministries in Kuwait and the private sector.
Kuwait held its first National Day celebrations on June 19, 1962, which was the first time a celebration was held on the occasion of independence. Due to the high temperatures in the summer and the difficulty of holding celebrations, Independence Day was merged with the date of the late Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah’s accession to the rule of Kuwait in February 25, 1963, during which independence occurred.
Since that date, Kuwait has been celebrating its Independence Day on the twenty-fifth of February every year.
