Increase in total foreign investments in the Sultanate of Oman

Total foreign investments in the Sultanate of Oman recorded an increase of 8.2 percent by the end of 2022, reaching 27 billion, 134 million, and 900 thousand Omani riyals, with flows representing 4.8 percent of the GDP at current prices, compared to foreign investments of 25 billion, 89 million, and 100 thousand Omani riyals by the end of 2021. According to what was shown by the preliminary statistics included in the release of foreign investment indicators issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information.

Foreign direct investment constituted 75.9 percent of the total foreign investment by the end of 2022, amounting to 20 billion, 592 million and 600 thousand Omani riyals, with inflows amounting to two billion and 830 million Omani riyals, compared to a value of 847 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals for foreign portfolio investments, with inflows of 442 million and 300 thousand riyals. Omani.

Foreign investments in financial derivatives also recorded a value of 52 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals, with inflows of one million and 300 thousand Omani riyals, while other foreign investments recorded a value of 5 billion, 642 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals, with inflows of 343 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals.
Oil and gas activity accounted for 56.4 percent of the total foreign investment, with a value of 15 billion, 320 million and 700 thousand Omani riyals, compared to 5 billion, 558 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals for financial intermediation activity, 2 billion, 373 million and 400 thousand Omani riyals for manufacturing industries, and 1 billion, 617 million and 900 thousand riyals. Omani for transportation, storage and communications activity.

The total foreign investment in real estate, rental and commercial project activities amounted to one billion, 112 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals, while foreign investment in other activities recorded one billion 151 million and 100 thousand Omani riyals.

In foreign direct investment, the oil and gas sector accounted for 71.1 percent, compared to 9.1 percent for the manufacturing sector, 8.9 percent for the financial intermediation sector, 4.9 percent for real estate, rental, and commercial activities, and 6 percent for other activities.

The United Kingdom topped the ten most important countries in foreign direct investment in the Sultanate of Oman with a value of 9 billion 621 million 900 thousand Omani riyals, followed by the United States with 3 billion 684 million 200 thousand Omani riyals, then China with 1 billion 39 million 600 thousand Omani riyals.

As for foreign investments in the portfolio, the value of investments in transportation, storage and communications activity amounted to 472 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals, in financial intermediation 290 million Omani riyals, in manufacturing industries 10 million and 100 thousand Omani riyals, in hotels and restaurants 6 million and 700 thousand Omani riyals, and in other activities 68 million and 200 thousand. One thousand Omani riyals.

On the other hand, statistics indicate that the total Omani investments abroad recorded a value of 5 billion, 383 million and 600 thousand Omani riyals by the end of 2022, compared to 6 billion, 20 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals at the end of 2021, a decrease of 10.6 percent.

Among these investments are two billion and 207 million and 500 thousand Omani riyals for direct investments, one billion and 423 million and 800 thousand Omani riyals for portfolio investments, and two million and 900 thousand Omani riyals for investment in financial derivatives, while other investments recorded one billion and 749 million and 400 thousand Omani riyals.

The manufacturing sector topped direct Omani investments abroad with a value of 584 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals, followed by the financial intermediation sector with a value of 226 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals, real estate and rental activities, and commercial project activities with a value of 16 million and 500 thousand Omani riyals, and the oil and gas sector with a value of 5 million and 300 thousand. Omani riyals, while the value of investments in other activities amounted to one billion and 375 million and 300 thousand Omani riyals.

Omani direct investments in the Arab Republic of Egypt amounted to 19 million and 700 thousand Omani riyals, in India 9 million and 400 thousand Omani riyals, and in the Kingdom of Bahrain two million and 600 thousand Omani riyals.
