The opening of the Muscat International Book Fair for the year 2024 with the participation of 34 countries

The activities of the 28th session of the Muscat International Book Fair were launched under the patronage of Dr. Mohammed bin Saeed Al-Maamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. Al-Dhahirah Governorate will be the guest of honor of the exhibition in this session. There will be a special pavilion to introduce the intellectual and cultural history of the governorate, and an expanded set of programmes, activities and cultural events will be implemented. 847 publishing houses from 34 countries are participating in this year’s session, which will continue until next March 2, including 676 participating directly and 171 others through agencies.

Al Dhahirah Governorate will be the guest of honor at the exhibition this year. The exhibition includes a special pavilion to introduce the intellectual and cultural history of the governorate, and an expanded set of programmes, activities and cultural events will be implemented throughout the duration of the exhibition.

This year, the exhibition will also host a group of prominent intellectuals and media figures to participate in the cultural scene activities that will take shape during the exhibition days.

It is noteworthy that Ahmed bin Saud Al Rawahi, Director of the Muscat International Book Fair, reviewed the data of participations and events, noting that the number of participating publishing houses this year reached 847 houses from 34 countries, of which 676 participate directly and 171 through agencies.

He added that the total titles and publications listed on the site amounted to 622 thousand titles, including approximately 269 thousand Arabic books and 200 thousand foreign books, while the number of the Omani collection reached 19 thousand books, and the number of modern publications printed between 2023 and 2024 reached about 35,989 books.

He pointed out that a space has been allocated for children and family events and activities, including a theater for events and workshops, a language corner, a children’s museum corner, and a green corner. Cultural cafés have also been established in a number of participating pavilions.

He added that Palestine will be present in the cultural scene of the exhibition through events and activities that will focus on the issue from its various aspects. He also indicated that the theme of the exhibition this year will be artificial intelligence, and many cultural events and activities this year will fall under this theme.
