The Alliance of Mediterranean News Agencies (AMAN) condemns any form of violence and attack against journalists and other media people while doing their job in a conflict zone and expresses its support and solidarity with the Palestinian journalists who suffer more, Secretary General of AMAN, George Penintaex, stated in a letter to the Directors General of AMAN member – agencies, including the Cyprus News Agency (CNA).
In his letter, Penintaex refers to the 26th of February, noting that it is the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Journalists, as called for by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, according to an announcement issued by Minister Ahmad Assaf, General Supervisor of Palestinian Official Media.
“This is to draw attention to the atrocities committed by the Israeli occupation against our fellow journalists, as part of the systematic campaign of extermination waged by the occupation against our people”, Assaf said.
The AMAN Secretary General noted in his letter that AMAN, which groups national news agencies in the Mediterranean Basin, “has repeatedly expressed its condemnation against the killing of Palestinian (and of other nationalities) journalists and media people during the Israeli attack on Gaza”.
