Sigrid Kaag concludes her visit to Cairo after meetings with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Finance and Solidarity

Ms. Sigrid Kaag, the United Nations Senior Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, recently concluded a two-day visit to Egypt where she held meetings with Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, Finance Minister Mohamed Mait, and Social Solidarity Minister Nevin Al-Kabbaj.

According to a statement issued by the United Nations in Egypt, the United Nations Chief Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza held a meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, during which she discussed the urgent need to implement Security Council Resolution 2720 regarding civilians in Gaza.

The United Nations appointed Sigrid Kaag as coordinator to supervise humanitarian relief shipments to Gaza, following the UN Security Council resolution, with the aim of increasing humanitarian aid to the besieged Strip.
The United Nations said in a statement that Dutch Sigrid Kaag will be the Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, and will begin her work on January 8, 2024.

CAG’s role is to facilitate, coordinate, monitor and verify humanitarian relief shipments to Gaza. It will also establish a United Nations mechanism concerned with accelerating the sending of humanitarian relief shipments to the Strip, through countries that are not a party to the war.
