The South African ambassador offers his condolences to the three Egyptian monks to Pope Tawadros on behalf of his country

Yesterday, Wednesday, the South African Ambassador to Cairo, Ntsheke Joseph Mashimbe, met with His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Patriarch of the See of Mark, at the Papal Residence in Cairo, according to a statement issued by the South African Embassy in Cairo.

The ambassador offered his sincere condolences and solidarity with Egypt after the unfortunate incident that led to the death of three Egyptian monks in a Coptic monastery in South Africa.

He also offered his sincere condolences on behalf of his country to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and the entire Coptic Orthodox church community in Egypt.

The ambassador praised the strenuous efforts made by the security authorities and their success in arresting the perpetrators who are still in detention so that justice can take its course.

He stressed the importance of the Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Church continuing its constructive contributions to South Africa, and emphasized its vital role in promoting peace and social cohesion in South Africa.

The ambassador announced his country’s great support for the government and people of Egypt, especially during the period of official mourning for the victims of the accident.

The ambassador praised the prominent role of the Egyptian Coptic Church in shaping Egypt’s future towards peace and democracy, and expressed his sincere gratitude to His Holiness the Pope for his constant concern for the safety of all South African citizens.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the ambassador expressed his thanks to His Holiness the Pope for the kind reception of the embassy delegation and offered prayers and condolences to show strength in the face of this painful incident.

For its part, the South African Embassy in Cairo stressed the importance and speed of concluding investigations by the South African Police and the relevant security authorities to determine the causes and circumstances of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.
