An event was held at the residence of the Turkish Ambassador in Cairo on the occasion of the Youth and Sports Day and the Commemoration of Ataturk, May 19.
The Turkish Ambassador to Cairo, Salih Mutlu Shen, said during his speech at the opening of the event that Mustafa Kemal Ataturk dedicated this holiday to Turkish youth.
Ambassador Shen also pointed out that youth represent hope and the future and that sports strengthen friendship, saying, “We want to organize friendship and brotherhood matches between Turkey and Egypt at the level of national teams and clubs.”
Ambassador Shen indicated that he visited 50 Turkish athletes participating in the athletics competitions currently being held in Ismailia. He said that Egypt is a country that enjoys a bright future with its vibrant population, and that it also has talented youth in sports.
Ambassador Shen reported that the Egyptian athlete, Adam Aseel, became the world champion in gymnastics under the Turkish flag, saying, “It is our common pride.”
Ambassador Shen concluded his speech by explaining that Youth and Sports Day is also the day of commemoration of Ataturk and said: “We commemorate Ataturk just as we remember with mercy, thanks and appreciation our young martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Turkey when they were fifteen years old.”
