The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrates International Yoga Day 2024

The Embassy of India in Cairo celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day 2024 by holding events in six different Egyptian cities, including the main event in Cairo Governorate scheduled to be held at Freedom Park in Zamalek on June 21.

The embassy is also organizing “introductory events ahead of International Yoga Day” in: Hurghada (Social Club) on June 2, 2024, Luxor (Karnak Temple) on June 6, 2024, Ismailia (Ports Club) on June 9, 2024, and Minya. (Sports Club) on June 11, 2024, and Alexandria (Alexandria Library) on June 14, 2024. These events are organized in cooperation with the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Cairo Governorate.

In recognition of the global popularity of yoga, the United Nations declared on December 11, 2014 to celebrate June 21 of each year as International Yoga Day.

India submitted a draft resolution declaring the International Day of Yoga, and the resolution was approved by a record number of 175 United Nations member states. International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness of the many benefits of practicing yoga around the world.

The United Nations General Assembly stated in its resolution that yoga provides people with an integrated lifestyle that makes them enjoy health and happiness, and stressed the importance of increasing awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga in all parts of the world.
