The German Agency for International Cooperation “GIZ Egypt”, in cooperation with the United Nations Human Settlements Program “UN Habitat”, organized an important event in Cairo entitled “Inclusive and Resilient Cities: Towards a Just Urban Transformation in Egypt”, as part of the “Urban Campaign in Egypt”, under the title Slogan: “Together for progress and quality of life.”

The event aimed to discuss how to make cities livable for all residents, highlight the role of inclusivity and sustainability in urban development, and ways to enhance cooperation between governments, civic actors and residents in urban development projects.

Mario Zander von Turklos, Director of the Middle East Department at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development in Germany, participated in the event as a guest of honour, where he stressed the German government’s commitment to improving living conditions in urban areas in Egypt through strong cooperation with the Egyptian government in various development projects.

During the event, a number of successful joint projects were presented between the German Agency for International Cooperation, the European Union delegation, and Egyptian partners from the Ministries of Social Solidarity, Housing and Environment, such as “Capacity Building through Urban Infrastructure Development,” “The National Solid Waste Management Program,” and “ Equal opportunities and social development” as models of best practices in this field.

Zander stressed the importance of dialogue, cooperation and participation in finding sustainable solutions, stressing that urban development is a major focus of German development cooperation, especially within the “BMZ 2030” strategy, which places the needs of local residents at the top of priorities.
