Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, and Mohamed Gabran, Minister of Labor, held a meeting at the Ministry of Social Solidarity’s headquarters in the new administrative capital. The meeting was attended by Eng. Margaret Sarofim, Deputy Minister of Social Solidarity, Major General Gamal Awad, Chairman of the National Social Insurance Authority, and leaders from both ministries.
The meeting discussed ways of mutual cooperation between the two ministries and the National Social Insurance Authority, in line with the President’s directives regarding irregular workers, who receive significant attention from the political leadership, emphasizing the need to provide a decent life for them. Supporting and protecting this category is a top priority for the government.
The meeting explored the steps taken to protect and care for irregular workers in various sectors. Efforts will be unified across all entities to build a specific database for irregular workers and include them in insurance, social, and health coverage.
During the meeting, it was agreed to prepare a joint working paper outlining several mechanisms to reach the largest number of irregular workers and include them under the insurance umbrella, and to empower them economically.
The coming period will see intensified joint efforts between the two ministries to raise awareness among irregular workers about the insurance benefits they will receive upon their inclusion in the insurance system.
