Yasser Idris: Mohamed El-Sayed Brought Joy to Egyptians… His Medal is a Good Omen for All Athletes

Engineer Yasser Idris, President of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, congratulated Mohamed El-Sayed, Egypt’s fencing champion, for winning the bronze medal after defeating the Hungarian champion in the third and fourth place match at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Idris said, “Egypt is proud of its champions, and everyone is thrilled with what Mohamed El-Sayed has achieved, as he has brought joy to the faces of all Egyptians during this significant period.”

The Olympic Committee President explained that today’s first medal would be a good omen for all athletes in various sports in the coming days, especially since it is only the second day of the Olympics.

Yasser Idris urged all Egyptian fans to support and back all of Egypt’s athletes during this crucial time in the history of Egyptian sports to secure more medals in the future.

He also thanked the Egyptian state for its significant support of sports and athletes, congratulating Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, Minister of Youth and Sports, for his unlimited support of Egyptian champions.

Idris also extended congratulations to the Egyptian Fencing Federation for its remarkable performance, noting that Egypt was close to winning another medal through fencer Ziad El-Sissi, who finished fourth.

Mohamed El-Sayed won the bronze medal match against the Hungarian champion with a score of 8-7, thus securing the third place and the first Egyptian medal at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

El-Sayed started his journey in the tournament by defeating the Colombian champion 15-7 in the round of 32, then winning against the Italian champion 15-10 in the round of 16.

In the quarter-finals, El-Sayed won against the Belgian champion with a golden touch, 9-8, before losing to the French champion in the semi-finals 15-9. He then competed in the bronze medal match and won against the Hungarian champion.

Egypt is participating in the Paris 2024 Olympics with its largest delegation in history, comprising 148 primary athletes and 16 reserves, totaling 164 athletes competing in 22 sports, making it the largest delegation among Arab and African countries.
