Foreign Minister and Migration Discusses with His Burkinabé Counterpart Ways to Develop Existing Cooperation Paths Between the Two Countries

Dr. Badr Abdel Atty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates, held a phone conversation with Karamoko Jean Marie Traoré, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation, and Burkinabé Expatriates in the Republic of Burkina Faso.

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zeid, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Migration and Director of the Public Diplomacy Department, stated that the Foreign Minister began the call by congratulating his Burkinabé counterpart on the occasion of Independence Day, which falls on August 5th.

The conversation covered the overall paths of existing cooperation and explored ways to expand them to broader horizons in line with the current priorities of both countries.

The Foreign Minister emphasized Egypt’s interest in supporting national capacity-building and institutional development in sister African countries through the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and scholarships offered by Egyptian universities.

The spokesperson added that Dr. Abdel Atty affirmed Egypt’s support for Burkina Faso’s efforts in combating terrorism and cross-border crime, highlighting the efforts of the Al-Azhar mission members in Burkina Faso to counter extremist ideologies, correct misconceptions, and promote moderate thought and the true image of Islam.

Abdel Atty expressed Egypt’s keenness to engage in enhancing the peace and security structure in the African continent and addressing issues that are a priority for sister African countries.

He emphasized that Egypt will always support its African brothers in all regional and international forums.

The discussion also touched on key regional and international issues of mutual interest, as well as the developments in the Sahel and Sahara region, the increasing security challenges, and their impact on West African countries, and how to address these threats.
