The Palestinian news agency reported that over 100 Palestinians were killed and dozens more were injured early this Saturday due to an Israeli airstrike on the “Al-Tabiyeen” school, which shelters displaced persons in the Daraj neighborhood east of Gaza City.
Palestinian media outlets stated that rescue teams in Gaza are continuing to retrieve dozens of bodies and injured individuals from under the rubble of the school, which was hit by the airstrike.
According to Palestinian media, Gaza’s Civil Defense reported that Israeli forces targeted displaced persons with three rockets while they were performing the dawn prayer at the “Al-Tabiyeen” school.
In response to the attack, the Israeli army said in a statement: “Under the guidance of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) intelligence and the Shin Bet, the Israeli Air Force precisely struck Hamas terrorists operating within the movement’s command and control center located in the Al-Tabiyeen school, which serves as a shelter for Gaza City residents.”
The statement continued: “The command and control center served as a hideout for Hamas terrorists and leaders, from where various attacks against IDF forces and the State of Israel were planned and executed.”
It added: “Before the raid, several measures were taken to mitigate the risk of harm to civilians, including the use of precision munitions, aerial surveillance, and intelligence information.”
The statement concluded: “The terrorist organization Hamas systematically violates international law and operates from within civilian shelters, cynically exploiting residents and civilian institutions as human shields for its terrorist activities.”
