Angola’s Ambassador to Cairo: Egypt supported our liberation against Portuguese colonialism

Ambassador Nelson Cosme, Angola’s ambassador to Cairo, said that The relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Republic of Angola are distinct, historical and run from several decades.

The ambassador added during his speech at the national day ceremony of the Republic of Angola, which was held in Cairo, that relationship began in 1965, with the opening, in Cairo, of the first regional representation.

He said that this came within the framework of Egyptian support for the Angolan Liberation Movements against Portuguese colonialism, within a shared vision between President Gamal Abdel Nasser and Angolan leaders, which was the need to get rid of the colonial invation and promote cooperation between African countries for the emancipation of their people and the development of their respective countries.

He added that Egypt and Angola have strengthened their bilateral relations and the ties of friendship between the two countries and peoples, as well as business and business partnerships, have been strengthened, with continued coordination and consultations on regional political issues of common interest to the various levels, from technical, ministerial and Presidential.

He pointed out that The two countries have been committed to continuing coordination and consultations on regional political issues of common interest at various levels.

The ambassador said: We emphasize the development of relations between our two countries over the last few years at a political, economic and cultural level, which culminated in the visit of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi, to the Republic of Angola, in June this year, and the exchange of high-level bilateral visits, including visits of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Public Works, Housing and Urbanism, last March.

He continued: We also welcome the deep relations between the two countries that resulted in the signing of eight Agreements and Memorandums of Understanding, in several professional domains that had a greater impact on strengthening of bilateral cooperation and on the implementation of the National Strategic Plan 20-50, particularly in the areas of construction and energy infrastructure, and the recent entry of Egyptian companies El-Swedi Electric, Arab Contractors and Orascom, among others, into the Angolan market.

He said that which contributed to this extremely important sector to increase the turnover of Egyptian companies in Angola, with a strong growth trend.
