Korea, Egypt Discuss Ways to Expand Joint Cooperation in Transport, Industry Sectors

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt Kim Young-hyun met with H.E. Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Affairs and Minister of Transport and Industry, to discuss enhancing bilateral cooperation in the fields of transportation and industrial development.

Ambassador Kim stressed that Korea and Egypt are working to develop close economic cooperation in various sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure, energy, defense industry, higher education, and digital government.

He particularly highlighted the remarkable achievements in the transportation sector, such as metro, railway, and tram projects.

Ambassador Kim also praised the significant progress made in modernizing Egypt’s transportation infrastructure over the past five years under the leadership of H.E. Lieutenant General Kamel El-Wazir, noting that Korean companies have also been able to contribute to this progress.

With the Minister recently appointed as Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Affairs, Ambassador Kim expressed his hope that these successes will expand to include all industrial sectors.

He added that this cooperation would support Egypt’s ambitions to become a regional hub for industry and manufacturing.

Ambassador Kim mentioned that Egypt is a major partner country for Korea’s official development assistance, with ongoing projects in various fields such as transportation and the Suez Canal green infrastructure.

He suggested identifying and developing new projects in various fields to expand this development cooperation.

He pointed out that during the Korea-Africa Summit last June, the Economic Cooperation Fund for Development’s support to Egypt was increased from $1 billion to $3 billion, which could make a significant contribution to expanding Egypt’s infrastructure and industrial development.

Deputy Prime Minister Kamel El-Wazir stated that cooperation between Korea and Egypt in the transportation sector is very important, as it not only forms the basis for Egypt’s economic development, but also directly improves the quality of life for Egyptian citizens.

He expressed his great appreciation for the contributions of Korean companies in creating jobs and exports through their operations in Egypt, expressing his hope to expand cooperation and investment opportunities in all industrial sectors.
