Portuguese coach José Gomes, head coach of Zamalek’s first football team, has finalized the list of new players who will join the team for their trip to Saudi Arabia to face Al Ahly in the upcoming African Super Cup, scheduled for next Friday.
The Zamalek squad will include new players such as Palestinian Omar Faraj, Moroccan Mahmoud Bentayek, Polish Konrad Michalak, Mohamed Hamdi, and Senegalese Sidi Ndiaye, who is registered as an underage player.
The Zamalek technical staff is preparing for the clash against Al Ahly for the African Super Cup title after the White Knights secured a spot in the group stages of the CAF Confederation Cup by defeating Kenya’s Police FC with an aggregate score of 3-1.
On the other hand, Al Ahly’s coaching staff, led by Swiss coach Marcel Koller, is also preparing for the Zamalek match after the Red Devils advanced to the group stages of the CAF Champions League by beating Kenya’s Gor Mahia with a 6-0 aggregate score.
This match marks the first official encounter between Al Ahly and Zamalek in the African Super Cup in 30 years, with the previous meeting taking place in 1994.
The game will kick off at 9:00 PM Cairo time at the Kingdom Arena in Saudi Arabia.
It is worth noting that the African Super Cup has been held outside Africa on four previous occasions, three times in Qatar in 2020, 2021, and 2022, and last year in Saudi Arabia.
