Beit El Senary, affiliated with the Cultural Communication Sector at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, hosts an exceptional exhibition entitled “A River is Not a River” by Spanish artist Maria Primo, organized by the Spanish Embassy in Cairo.
The exhibition will be held between September 25 and October 5, 2024, and is a magical visual journey between myth and reality.
The exhibition takes us on a journey through time, as Maria Primo displays a collection of photographs, artworks and documentary materials, the result of her artistic residency in Luxor, Egypt in 2021.
The collection deals with ancient myths, the role of women in the Pharaonic era, as well as ancient constructions and traditional architecture, in addition to the climate impact on heritage.
The exhibition is divided into interconnected parts, as the artist skillfully takes us between the ages, from the distant past to the present, in a mixture of fantasy and reality, myths and historical events.
Each piece of art in the exhibition contributes to telling the story of our relationship with nature, influenced by the vision of Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy, a pioneer of sustainable architecture, who believes that “the door is not just a door,” but rather a symbol of the boundaries between the outer and inner worlds.
Maria Primo is a distinguished researcher in the field of contemporary art and photography.
She is particularly interested in the relationship between humans and nature, to reveal the dimensions of photography as a means of expressing environmental awareness and environmentally friendly practices.
Her works are characterized by the integration of traditional techniques with new fields, creating a unique visual experience.
“A River is Not a River” is an open invitation to the public to visit this free exhibition, to experience this rich visual experience that combines art, nature and heritage.
