Denmark confirmed, through the joint statement following the talks held in New York by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Abroad, Mr. Nasser Bourita, and the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lars Lokke Rasmussen, during their meeting on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, that it considers “the autonomy plan presented by Morocco in 2007 a serious and reliable contribution to the ongoing UN process and a good basis for a mutually acceptable solution between all parties.”

In the joint statement, the two parties renewed their support for the process led by the United Nations and the Personal Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for the Sahara, Mr. Staffan de Mistura, as well as for the efforts to reach a peaceful solution acceptable to all parties to this conflict, in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.

Denmark’s new position is part of the international dynamic led by King Mohammed VI, King of the Kingdom Morocco, in support of the autonomy plan and Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara. It also confirms, on the other hand, the main trend currently prevailing in Europe and all parts of the European continent.

In a related context, the two ministers recalled the historical and excellent bilateral relations between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of Denmark, emphasizing their strategic importance.

The two parties also discussed the common ambition to further strengthen this partnership, with the aim of economic development and growth in both countries. The two ministers also agreed to strengthen cooperation in the areas of trade, investment, migration and development in particular.

Denmark stressed the importance of the bilateral partnership with Morocco, considering it a pole of stability and a pivotal player for development and prosperity in the region and in Africa in general.

In this context, the two ministers discussed the Danish strategy towards Africa called “The Horn of Africa” launched by the Danish government in August 2024, and the “Moroccan Royal Initiative to enable the Sahel countries to access the Atlantic Ocean” launched by King Mohammed VI in November 2023.

The two ministers also agreed to continue consultations on these initiatives related to Africa.
